How many times have you worked with someone who has a higher opinion of their own competence than is justified–and thinks everyone around them is an idiot? Oh, about a million, right? You learn after a while that there is no point even talking to these people. Unfortunately, they are often your boss. Damn Interesting [...]

You really need to do this. I’m serious. We need a superhero, bad:
The SCI FI Channel is teaming up with legendary comic-book creator Stan Lee to produce a reality series that will challenge a lucky few to create their very own superhero, and reward the winner with the best reality competition prize yet: immortality!
All you [...]

People have been asking me, “How’s your knee doing?” and I am happy to report that I am alive and kicking–unlike some people. So yes, the knee is just fine. Finally. I’m tempted to inflict one more knee shot on the blogosphere as a contrast to the ugly, pus-filled pics already shown, but we all [...]

From How to Save the World:
What would happen if, instead of the fraudulent, manipulative, humiliating, scripted crap that passes for ‘reality TV’, the networks were to broadcast some real reality: A hidden camera in a crackhouse, an animal laboratory, a prison, the bedroom of an abused spouse or child, a factory farm, a village [...]

Fuckfuckfuckfuck. The infection is spreading. I’ve been on heavy duty antibiotics for over two weeks, and the germs have regrouped. They are fighting back, and winning. I have to go back to the ER. Fuck.
Update: It was a staph infection after all, the kind that is resistant to the antibiotic I’ve been taking for SIXTEEN [...]

Okay, I’m only one-quarter Swedish, but that’s the heritage I’ve always identified with, growing up in Minnesota and all. Anyways…is this cool or what?
Sweden plans to be world’s first oil-free economy
Sweden is to take the biggest energy step of any advanced western economy by trying to wean itself off oil completely within 15 years [...]

Sorry I haven’t been blogging. I have a bad strep infection in my knee after falling and skinning it a week ago, and wound up spending half the weekend in the ER. I’m allergic to many antibiotics and now more hives today. Feeling awful. Gah.
Here’s what my wounded knee looked like on Day One.
Update: I’m [...]

So I finally took the dreaded Walk that my nutritionist and all of my friends have been nagging me to take. I am so. out. of. shape. Oy, it was embarrassing–the huffing and puffing, the sweating, the red face. By the time I got home, you would have thought I’d just run a marathon. How [...]

[WARNING: BORING MEDICAL DETAILS AHEAD]
I finally called the doctor and made an appointment a couple of weeks ago, after scaring myself at the post office. Nothing big, I just had a sudden, raging thirst and absolutely KNEW that I had to get home for a drink of water IMMEDIATELY.
I suppose I could have stopped [...]

Just adding my huzzahs to Jon’s eloquent defense of gay rights:
By God, they deserve to be equal citizens. If you are among those who think that homosexuality is somehow morally wrong, you might want to look a little closer at your community. They don’t want to convert you. They just want the same joy you [...]

Dr. Lawrence Reed, a New York City-based plastic surgeon, said the child’s good genes will in all likelihood make his services unnecessary.
“You have a very beautiful mother with great bone structure,” said Reed. “You have a very handsome father with excellent bone structure and facial features. The genetic prediction would make this child have a [...]

Born on Jan. 7, 1912: Cartoonist Charles Addams
In 1937, Addams began using a couple of regular characters — a deathly-pale woman dressed all in black, and her misshapen butler, who looked like he’d been assembled from odd-size parts. Later on, the woman’s deranged husband and their two horrible children began appearing with her, as well [...]

ProBlogger Darren Rowse has an interesting post about the importance of checking your blog’s stats:
I had grand visions of the blog being followed by friends and family wanting to see my photography. I also posted a short review of the camera I was using at the time.
Then Darren checked his stats and discovered that for [...]
