Summer, 1954

Thought I’d share a walk down memory lane. Here I am, standing in front of Grampa’s Chrysler [at least I think it was a Chrysler -- can anyone verify that for me?] Pontiac. It was the same color as Gramma’s living room — puke green. I’m wearing my favorite, Sunday-best, navy blue sateen dress. The grey wool upholstery in Grampa’s car scratched my bare legs when Mom drove us to church. Grampa didn’t go to church with us, which is how I thought all families were: women went to church; men stayed home. OTOH, there were SOME men at church… very confusing.
I got carsick a lot during Sunday drives, a common [and considered minor] problem among kids in those days — migraines, nausea, sometimes vomiting. Turns out I was being gassed by the car’s exhaust leaking into the backseat area. Who knew?
Now, the cumulation of those weekly CO exposures along with others have left me disabled and isolated, unable to work or even be around most people because of the chemical fragrances in their personal and laundry products.
[rant/] FYI to parents: be careful about the exposures your kids get to the many thousands of poisonous chemicals our government allows to be used in ordinary household products, fuels, building materials and personal products. These chemicals hurt *everyone*, not just a few weird "bubble people." You and/or your children could wind up like me — or worse. [/rant]

That car is a straight-eight Pontiac. Looks to me like it’s a 1950 model. I had to laugh when I saw this. My Grandfather had a green 1950 Chrysler.
Thanks, Bill. All these years, I thought it was a Chrysler. I love the visor over the windshield.
