Plant a Row for the Hungry

Approximately 25 million people, including 9.9 million children, have substandard diets or must resort to seeking emergency food because they cannot always afford the food they need. In the past year, the demand for hunger assistance has increased by 40%, and research shows that hundreds of hungry children and adults are turned away from food banks each year because of lack of resources.

If every gardener plants an extra row for the hungry and donates their surplus to a local food bank or soup kitchen, I have a feeling hunger would be nearly wiped out in America. What a great idea.

The Talmud required all farmers to leave the corners of their fields alone, for the poor to harvest for themselves. Also, farmers were only allowed to go over the main field once. Whatever wasn’t gathered up in the first pass, was also for the poor to glean for themselves.

    Hmmm. . .

About this blog

I'm not really famous. In case you were wondering. But I tried. I once believed that fame makes you real - a perversion of "The Velveteen Rabbit" theme that love makes you real. Guess I equated fame with love. Sad. You can read more about that here.
