When I was a girl in Minnesota, my mother and three aunts started a round robin letter. Once a month or so, Mom would receive a fat envelope filled with letters from each of her best friends: her sisters-in-law, Betty, Grace and Dixie. She would read all the letters to find out what was going [...]

My Aortal site of the week, which I didn’t realize until now I was supposed to say, is a nifty diary by a cool co-ed, a pretty young thing: The Lavender Kitchen…
In the referral stats:
Pretty+young+thing
Ew. Okay, only old men would look for a “pretty young thing.” Guys my age don’t say that. What’s the deal? [...]

Childhood presents each of us with a puzzle that we spend the rest of our lives trying to solve.

Yoga was very difficult today. My mind and body resisted from the beginning - when I had a long ‘talk’ with myself via my morning pages and finally convinced myself that there was no way out:
8:45 am - Slept too late - now the temptation not to do yoga is very strong. It’s an hour [...]

OMG - this is scary:
The name of Lavonne creates an easy-going, good-natured personality, meeting and mixing easily. You appreciate the company of others, to the point that you do not like to be by yourself for very long. You are gifted with natural expression, both verbal and musical, but you would find it tedious to [...]

I now own my very own copy of Taking Your Talent to the Web by the great Zeldman, so of course now I’m wondering, “What talent?” But seriously, I feel like I personally know somebody famous because I read his blog. [How pathetic is THAT?] He should be thanking me personally for the $4.20 or [...]

Thought in passing: What’s going on with me these days isn’t about writing or achieving success in the world. This is about learning self-discipline, about achieving control over myself. This is the lesson I’ve been resisiting since childhood, the brick wall that stops me from having the life I want. As far as I can [...]

Things that have gone wrong in the past week:
Saturday: computer broke
Monday: laptop broke
Wednesday: cable tv went down
Wednesday: cable internet went down
Thursday: discovered that I screwed up first web site
Sunday: toilet overflowed, aromatically
Sunday: screwed up second web site
So the question is, what is the Universe trying to tell me here?
Any opinions?

To my friends whose web site I trashed by accident - oh wait, that would be web sites - I just want to say shit, I’m sorry. And don’t worry.
I’ll fix ‘em, don’t worry.
I’m just a little tired right now, ya know? I’ll think about it in the morning - after my newly-rebuilt computer arrives. [...]

A few hours ago, the toilet overflowed. Maybe I should have taken it as a sign to give up and go to bed before I could single handedly destroy a web site I’ve been working on for months, just days before it was supposed to go live.
But, no.
I used Greymatter’s “search and replace” function [...]

Well, waddya know. The computer guy says it wasn’t a virus after all; my hard drive was just full. He cleaned it up and reinstalled Win98 and says it’s running like a dream. No files lost.
Same with the laptop, which he says was messed up by one of my son’s games, Diablo II.
Cost? Ninety [...]

First, my computer goes kablooey, presumably due to a virus. So I switch to my kid’s computer. Then the laptop goes down. So I take both machines into the shop. Then cable TV goes out. Since we’ve been getting it free for two years [they forgot to turn it off when I cancelled], I don’t [...]
